Knitting a decorative heart pattern free photo tutorial

A lovely knitted decor that can be used in many different ways.

The first thing that comes to my mind is the cup holder. Very romantic and sweet.

Knitted hearts

When choosing yarn, I recommend choosing cotton yarn if you want such a heart as a coaster or a tablecloth.

To knit these lovely hearts you will need – yarn of your choice and knitting needles.

How to knit decorative heart

This article will have a tutorial for a medium sized heart. If you want to knit it as a tablecloth, then you need to increase more stitches accordingly. The same for small knitted hearts – pick up a smaller number of stitches at the very beginning.

We will use knit stitch, knitting in both directions – forward and back.

Every time we start a new row, we remove the first stitch without knitting it and purl the last stitch. This way the edges of the heart will be smooth.

Start with casting on 6 stitches – how to cast on VIDEO.

We will start making new stitches in the first row. As I mentioned before – first stich of the row we are not knitting just taking it to the right needle and the immediately cast on new stich.

We pick up new stitches only when starting a new row, as shown in the following picture.

the stitch on the right is new

In order not to create a hole in the place where the new stitch was made, it must be knitted in a twisted way.

We knit back and forth, picking up a new stitch at the beginning of each new row, until there are 16 stitches on the needle.

Next, we knit about 7 rows without picking up new stitches. A simple straight piece.

We cut the thread about 7 cm from the knitting and put this knitting aside.

We knit another half, the same as the previous one.

Now take both knitted peace’s on one needle.

Add a new line that will connect the two halves together. The side that we knitted first must be attached so that the thread that we cut before is in the middle between the two parts. With this thread, you can adjust the shape of the heart later.

Next, we knit a piece of about 1.5 – 2 cm, as shown in the next picture.

In the next step, we will start making the slanted edges of the heart.

At the end of each row, knit two stitches before the last stitch. The last stitch still needs to be purled.

It is important to remember that in each row two stitches are knitted only once.

We knit as long as 2 stitches remain.

We cut off the thread and pull it through the last two stitches.

The last thing to do is to secure the connection of the round part of the heart with the thread from one half with the help of a crochet hook.

Next, carefully tighten the ends of the threads and the heart is ready.
